“My husband and I commissioned Iris to paint two landscapes from pictures taken during recent trips: one from Tuscany and another of the Scottish Border region, specifically of a Border abbey and surrounds. We wanted paintings that would remind us of our wonderful vacations to these beautiful locations.
Iris painted a gorgeous Tuscan countryside near Montepulciano where we spent a month after we retired in 2014. Her painting gracefully captured the vibrant greens and browns of the cultivated rolling hills, the rows of lovely cedar trees, the rich earth planted with grapevines and olive trees, the vibrant Tuscan colors of the stucco homes with ceramic tiled roofs, and the subtle pastels of the setting sun over the distant mountains…stunning!
For the Scottish scene, she equally captured the ramparts of the Melrose Abbey and the foreground with the background of bright yellow spiky gorse, hedgerows and rolling hills that define the Border Abbey countryside landscape. Iris was able to capture the vibrant yellow gorse contrasting the verdant grass, the rolling hills and the stark grey rough texture of the Abbey stone ruins to really bring the scene to life.
Both paintings so perfectly capture the sense of place that they never cease to bring us great joy every time we look at them.”

I commissioned a portrait of my niece from Iris to give to my brother as a gift. I provided Iris with a picture from which to work and she created the most stunning oil painting that was not only true to the photograph but also captured my niece’s personality.
